A New Website for Clinical Fellows is on the Way!

Friday, February 26, 2016
I completed my clinical fellowship about 7 years ago. I was right out of grad school and thinking I had all the answers. Then I started my first real job as a speech language pathologist and started feeling a little lost. I knew what to do with the students I was working with, but how was I supposed to go about getting my license and certified by ASHA? What paperwork was I supposed to complete and when? Where was my trusted graduate counselor to hold my hand through the process? Your CF can be an overwhelming experience to say the least.

I am beyond excited to introduce you all to this fantastic new resource that I am so happy to be a part of. ClinicalFellowship.org is a brand new website that is scheduled to launch at the beginning of March. This website was designed to be a hub of information for graduate students, new grads, and clinical fellows starting their career in the field of speech language pathology.
When you log into ClinicalFellowship.org, you will be given access to numerous short videos that will help you with all kinds of questions from:
 what is a clinical fellowship?
what does it mean to be certified by ASHA?
what do you need to begin practicing?
how do I apply for certification?
how do I choose a setting and a mentor?
documentation
your resume
your first job
pay
… just to name a few!
Where was this when I was in grad school?!
Before the website officially launches, I want to introduce you to the team. Gary Adams is the founder of ClinicalFellowship.org. He is an incredible caring, motivated, and driven SLP. He is also a fellow graduate from The University of Central Florida! Jourdan Saunders is also an SLP and the author of the  website, FutureSLPs.com Last but not least, yours truly!
Last weekend, Gary, Jourdan, and I met in Orlando and filmed this online class. We worked incredibly hard to bring you the most comprehensive and informative website that will help you (or your students) make the most of your clinical fellowship experience. Of course we had a little fun, too!
I cannot wait to introduce you to this website very soon. Stay tuned for a launch date, more information, and giveaways! Enjoy your Friday!

Speech Therapy Visual Jewelry Product Review

Wednesday, February 17, 2016
As speech language pathologists, visuals are something that we use on a daily basis. Our bags are loaded up with binders and rings of visual schedules and picture prompts. I've always wondered if there was an easier way to carry all of these things around. Then Lisa Street comes into my life. This brilliant woman created visual jewelry for speech therapy. And I am not talking picture cards on a yarn necklace. This is super cute jewelry that actually blends in quite well with my Alex and Ani bangles I load my wrists up with each morning.
You can find these bracelets in Lisa's TpT store here. Each behavior bracelet includes 4 double sided charms that include visuals for: sit, stop, quiet mouth, quiet hands, done, wait, help, and more.  You are able to request specific visuals for your bracelet for an additional cost. The symbols are removable so you can add your own visuals if you would like to.
These bracelets have been perfect visuals for my students. I haven't had to dig through a giant ring of pictures when I quickly need a visual, they are right at my fingertips. This would be ideal for school based therapists when walking kids to and from class. In fact, I know a few parents that would probably get a ton of use out of these with their own children when they are out and about.
In addition to these bracelets, Lisa also offers different styles of jewelry that can target different goals. She has charms for Wh-questions and sliding charms with numbers. I can imagine using that for data collection or to help visually count articulation repetitions before a turn in a game. You can check out all of the visual jewelry she has to offer in her store, here.  Bravo Lisa, these are incredible! I am keeping these in mind as gifts for coworkers!
Lisa did send me a bracelet in exchange for a blog review. However, all opinions expressed in this review are my own.

My Speech Snow Globe Craftivity!

Wednesday, February 3, 2016
I am a sucker for a good craftivity. Any time I can incorporate movement and hands on interaction into a lesson, count me in! Since the weather has been quite chilly lately (yes, even in Florida!) I created a snow globe activity for my speech students.
Included in this packet is a color and black and white version of the snow globe. I found the snow globe clipart from Teacher's Clipart store on TpT. It is purposely left as a simple template so you can use it for just about any goal you are targeting.
Last week I used this with my preschool articulation students. I download target words from Mommy Speech Therapy and had the students practice their words or put them into a sentence before gluing them onto their snow globe!
They turned out really cute! I sent them home so they could practice the words in their snow globe that week with their families. You can download this craftivity for FREE in my TpT store here!
