Where's My Mummy?
Friday, October 28, 2011
To get into the Halloween spirit I read Where's My Mummy?
by Carolyn Crimi to my kindergarten and preK students. It was a hit!!
This is a cute, not so spooky, Halloween story of a baby mummy who does not want to go to bed! After we read the story, we created our own baby mummies!
To make them, we used:
1. a paper plate for his head
2. ripped up plain white computer paper for his bandages (tissue paper or crepe paper would work, too)
3. black construction paper for behind his eyes
4. googly eyes!
The kids had a great time ripping up the paper to make baby mummy's bandages! After we created our baby mummy heads, I gave them the writing prompt: "When I'm scared, my mummy....." Boy did I get some great answers! Below is a sample baby mummy!
"When I'm scared my mummy lets me sleep in her bed."
You could also incorporate sequencing into this story. Baby mummy meets some scary creatures along his way!
Here is our bulletin board!
Websites I LOVE-day!

I wanted to share a few websites I LOVE and use frequently. This first site is called Storyline Online. It is a website where actors read aloud children's stories such as, The Rainbowfish, Stellaluna, Harry the Dirty Dog, etc. It is great for a classroom if you have a Smartboard. Since I have mostly small groups in my little therapy room, it works out just fine to show the stories from my computer. The kids really enjoy watching the stories and following along with their own copy of the book!
This next website is called Speaking of Speech. It has lots of free downloads for speech, language, themed lessons etc. Go to 'materials exchange' for all the free goodies.
One last site is actually a blog that belongs to a stay at home mom SLP. The site is appropriately called, 'Mommy Speech Therapy.' She has a lot of great information as well as printables. Great website if you need articulation materials.
This weekend I will post some of our fun Halloween activities we have been creating this week! Enjoy the rest of your Friday Eve! :)

I cannot believe it has been 2 months since I last logged in on here. The school year is flying by! It has been a very exciting past few months (both in and out of school!) Kevin and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary in September and we found out we are having a baby! The baby is due April 27! Here is a picture from our 7 week ultrasound!
Back to why you are really here! I plan to update much more now that the school year (and my extreme fatigue!) has settled down a bit. I have a bunch great ideas that I have tried out this year, as well as new ideas I have found on Pinterest and other teacher blogs, that I want to share. I figured tonight I would share with you some of my favorite teacher blogs.
These blogs are created by teachers and have some really wonderful ideas for activities and classroom management. Have wonderful night!!
