About Me

Hey there!! Welcome to Simply Speech! I feel like I have gotten to know so many of you through blogging so I figured I would give you all a little peek into my life!

This is me :)
I was born and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida.... and I am still here today! I knew I wanted to be a speech language pathologist since high school. A good friend of the family had a son who was diagnosed with Apraxia. I went to his therapy sessions and fell in love. At that moment being an SLP trumped wanting to be a teacher. The rest is history! I went to undergrad at The University of Central Florida (where I was an ADPi <>) and completed graduate school at The University of South Florida, Go Bulls!
My husband, Kevin, is also from St. Petersburg and co-hosts the afternoon drive show for a local radio station, WiLd 94.1.  We got married in 2010 and had our beautiful Kenzie in 2012. Then our handsome little Kameron completed our family in June of 2015! These two keep me on my toes and help teach me the definition of being a patient person! Kenzie enjoys dancing and Kameron loves baseball.
I started my career working for Pinellas County Schools. After having children and needing some more flexibility, I switched to private therapy. In 2013 I joined TheraChoice, a private therapy company in St. Petersburg, FL. I love my job and could not imagine doing anything else.

Blogging has become a HUGE part of my life. I started blogging in August of 2011. I had just found Pinterest and so many great therapy ideas were linked back to teaching blogs. I was inspired to start a speech blog to share ideas with other therapists. I enjoy creating therapy materials and sharing ideas on my blog. I recently started sharing more than just speech related topics because as a busy mom, I love learning others tips and tricks (from easy dinners to sales!) I hope you enjoy Simply Speech and can find some great ideas and inspiration... after all, that is why it's here!

  1. I am so glad I found your blog via Pinterest! And Go Bulls!!! (I went to USF for undergrad...class of 2010 :) )

  2. Hi. I have followed your Simply Speech posts on Facebook for some time. I really enjoy your updates and ideas for therapy. Although I am retired SLP, I loved working with children in public schools (30+ years). I miss therapy and hope to start a private practice for articulation disorders in my hometown with children who need extra practice or may not receive any services. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or articles/publications you may have run across that would be helpful. Thanks and keep up those wonderful blogs! Mary Ann Thomas, MA, CCC-SP

  3. Hi Kristin,
Would you be willing to mention www.slpreviews.com on your blog? It's a forum for SLP's to review products- tests, materials, books, games, apps, etc. No subscriptions, no ads, no profit for me. I just think it could be a great resource if people know about it and use it! And of course, please post your reviews, and suggest more products to be listed (form on the website). Thank you for your consideration!

  4. My name is Carol Fast and I'm the creator of the Speech Stickers app. We were thrilled to read your review of our app. We hope you still love and use Speech Stickers. We are working on a series of updates to add more vowels and consonants which we hope to release this spring.

We have also been restructuring our little company and creating a new website for our app (and apps-to-be). We would love to excerpt some comments from your review. Would you allow us to add your comments to a "What people are saying about Speech Stickers" section? We would also provide a link back to your website/blog along with the blurb.

Please let us know if this is OK with you.

    Thanks in advance!

    1. Hi Carol! I am still loving speech stickers and use it almost every day! Please feel free to use a quote from my review! Can't wait to see what you all make next!

  5. I’ve nominated you for a One Lovely Blog Award! Thanks for making such a great blog :) Here is my original post: http://heidibritz.com/2015/04/23/a-nice-surprise-and-a-lovely-blog-award/

  6. I am so glad I found your blog! I am working as a Speech Therapist in a school system while going through ETSU's Speech Pathology program at the same time. Your blog has helped me so much in my first years working in the schools. I am also an ADPi! Thank you for all of your posts!
