Talking Is Hard For Me! {Book Review & Giveaway}

Recently I was contacted by Woodbine House to review the book, Talking Is Hard For Me! by Linda M. Reinert, M.S., CCC/SLP. This is an amazing resource for any parent, teacher, therapist, family member, and friend of someone with communication difficulties.

The book is designed to look like a children's book. It is very child friendly and would be perfect for any sibling or friend of a child with special needs. The book is filled with 13 short narratives and illustrations written from the point of view of a child with a communication disorder. For example, the initial narrative talks about how the child's family anticipates their wants and needs. As the book goes on, the child is encouraged to communicate or "talk with his/her hands." The narratives describe how communicating is hard for the child and explains why some behaviors may occur. While reading this, I couldn't help but think how perfect this book would be for classroom teachers to share with their students. Many children don't understand the behaviors of other students and that is all too often the root of bullying. In addition, many parents do not understand why their child cannot communicate with them. This would be a great resource to give parents of children who have been diagnosed with a communication disorder.
Each narrative has a Talk To The Child section on the bottom left side. This sections encourages conversation between the child and the adult. There are also Tips and Techniques related to each narrative. This sections gives great resources and ideas related to each area addressed by the book.
I am so thankful that Woodbine House contacted me to review this book. This is a great resource that I will be sure to share with other parents and professionals. You can purchase this book from Woodbine House or Amazon
